What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese relaxation and energy-balancing technique that helps the body shift out of stress and into a calmer, restorative state. It works through light touch or hands held just above the body.

It is:

  • Non-invasive

  • Gentle and calming

  • Supportive of the body’s natural healing response

  • Safe for all ages and backgrounds

Reiki is not tied to any religion or belief system. You don’t need prior experience, spiritual knowledge, or meditation skills to benefit. You simply lie down, breathe, and receive. Think of Reiki as giving your nervous system a chance to reset.

How Reiki works

When the body is stressed—emotionally, physically, or mentally—it tenses and blocks natural energy flow.

Reiki helps soften these blocks by sending gentle, steady energy through the practitioner’s hands.

This may help:

  • Calm the nervous system

  • Release emotional heaviness

  • Reduce physical tension

  • Improve clarity and focus

  • Create a deep sense of inner peace

Many people describe it as “a quiet, peaceful nap” or “a deep exhale I didn’t know I needed.” You don’t have to “try” or “do” anything. Reiki works best when you simply allow yourself to rest.

What You May Feel

Everybody responds differently, and every session is unique. Some sensations clients report include:

  • Warmth or gentle heat

  • Soft tingling

  • Waves of calm

  • Emotional release (crying or sighing is normal and healthy)

  • Deep relaxation

  • Falling asleep

  • Lightness or clarity afterward

Others feel very little during the session but notice changes later—sleeping better, clearer thinking, less tension, a calmer mood. There is no “right” way to experience Reiki. Your body takes what it needs.
